[Add-Art's] Double Act: The Hustler and The Carer
An online exhibition that focuses on two modes of presentation of art online, which we're calling The Hustler and The Carer. The Hustler refers to the form of reciprocity in which a product or service is being presented (for sale) to a potential user (based upon analytics culled from taste-expressing consumers). A great example of this kind of reciprocity is the virtual context - the ad spaces - in which Add-Art operates (i.e. The Banner Ad Surrogate). In contrast, The Carer refers to a form of reciprocity in which personal requests for intimate communication are offered as a form of support. These requests are typically not associated with economic transactions but rather a reciprocity of attention.

An 11,000 square foot warehouse gallery space dedicated to opening 3-4 exhibitions each month. Mack b was a catalyst for the creative expression of individuals and the active engagement of audiences. We hoped to encourage experimentation, diversity and dialogue in the contemporary arts practice, as well as, foster an appreciation for the vital role that artists play within the community on both a local and global level.

What is Public Art? / An Exhibition Cultivating Discussion and Intervention in an Expanded Public Field
The WiPA project aims to transcend the limitations of traditional art perception by presenting alternative strategies for public art-making. No public space offers complete freedom or accessibility. The inherent physical and social constructions of space put limitations on who may participate and to what extent they can practice agency. Interventions of public art have the potential to reach beyond traditional art form and passive perception by providing participants with the possibility to investigate the physical, social, and psychological relationships of the urban environment. Indeed, experimentation with non-traditional practices offers the possibility of discovering new ways to appropriate and reshape public space. If nothing else, we hope to cultivate fresh insights and engaging experiences through the creative disruption of everyday life. (November 2005)

    Lauren Grant's "Dixie"
Grant's photographs reveal multiple perspectives by allocating space within the compositions for the subject's inscription of their own personal thoughts and feelings. When assembled in an exhibition, the photographs provide a forum for the discussion of segregation and representation in Sarasota.
"Powerful and well-conceived, her photographs convey a familiarity with her subjects that extends beyond the documentary image"... Mark Ormond, May 2006 SARASOTA Magazine
There was also an open public discussion Sunday, June 18, 2006, focused on Lauren Grant's work and "how our participation in the every-day institutions of our society reinforce self-maintaining negative stereotypes and propagate segregated communities."
